FAMILY FUN
We must of course start with Skelf Island, a children’s playground like no other with its waterside forest setting, rope walks and treetop nests. Throughout the school holidays visitors may be lucky enough to encounter the residents of Skelf Island. These faerie-like creatures have inhabited a secret word causing mischief and fun and protecting the local wildlife.
Just across from the Great Lake at Castle Howard, a mere stone’s throw away this is an easy place to visit. When you own a holiday home at Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park, you will receive Silver Membership to Castle Howard so will be able to visit Skelf Island as often as you like. Camping guests receive a 2 for 1 voucher to visit the grounds at Castle Howard so this adventure is a great day out for everyone.
Flamingo Land Resort near Malton is a large theme park that appeals to all ages. Whether you seek out high-thrill rollercoasters, or gentler offerings such as the award-winning zoo, it’s a day out you won’t forget. New for 2022 is the 10-inversion rollercoaster where you can experience five different types of inversion. Our heads are spinning just thinking about it!
For budding zoo keepers, you can arrange a visit that will create holiday memories that last. Book one of the special animal encounters and you can get up close and meet some of the residents in their habitats. Join the penguin keepers at feeding time or go inside one of the giraffe houses and meet the tallest residents at Flamingo Land. There are lots of opportunities to plan the perfect day trip from your holiday home at Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park.
Alpamare, the Yorkshire coast’s biggest water attraction, is located in Scarborough and is definitely worth a visit with its pools, slides, wellness area and sundecks. A great selection of pools from our wave pool, to the garden pool, splash & play area perfect for children or our infinity pool and outdoor bar. You can choose the pool to cool off in and relax or have fun with the whole family. This is no ordinary waterpark, so be sure to check it out.
Staying in the vicinity of Scarborough, another must-see visit is the Sea Life Centre… watch an underwater world from huge aquariums, pop by for feeding time in the penguin enclosure and see the work of the seal rescue sanctuary. The rainforest adventure will immerse you in a world of creepy crawlies and lizards. A visitor favourite is the Tropical Ocean Tunnel where you can view the sea creatures from underwater. You may even spot a Blacktip Reef Shark!
Drive through Malton (we have a separate article about this fabulous market town) and make your way to Dalby Forest and its adventures (or peace and quiet) – great trails (walk, run or cycle), orienteering, stunning views, nail-biting treetop swings, bridges and zip wires at Go Ape, star-gazing, a Grandfather Oak, forest Segway and wonderful fresh air.
Piglets Adventure Farm near York is a proper family fun day featuring animals galore, tractors, go-karts, an assault course – and don’t forget to jump on the giant bouncing pillows!
